Wooden House, Trebetherick

A modern wooden house with a balcony, outdoor patio, and garden surrounded by trees and plants.

Wooden House in Trebetherick was not a single room, it was the whole house. Across four bedrooms, a master dressing room and en suite, a boot room, entrance lobby, kitchen, utility larder, living room, office, staircase and downstairs WC, every piece of joinery was designed, made and fitted by our team as one continuous project.

Everything was designed and finished in crown cut European oak, book matched and lacquered to a consistent 3% sheen throughout the house, so a wardrobe upstairs and a kitchen cabinet downstairs are recognisably part of the same piece of work. This was in a low VOC water based lacquer as it is a more sustainable choice.

Handle detail changes by room to suit its use: a central routed handle through the bedrooms, a side routed handle to the office and stairway, and a J-Pull routed handle through the kitchen, utility and boot room.

In the kitchen, the island does a lot of hard work, with seating, cooking, open storage, and lots of drawers with internal cutlery trays, spice trays and knife blocks. The worktop itself is a low silica Caesarstone surface in Empira White, chosen specifically as the safer, more sustainable option over a standard high silica quartz, in the same spirit as the material choices we set out on our sustainability page.

Elsewhere in the kitchen, three separate sinks are fitted across the project: a stainless Zerox undermount in the main kitchen, a matching sink in the boot room, and a third, smaller Claron sink in the utility larder, each paired with either a Quooker Pro3 boiling water tap or an Abode Globe mixer depending on the room. Pull out drawers sit either side of the hob, a spice pull out next to the oven, and a corner pull out in the boot room, with bins built into the sink base of every room that has one.

Beyond the kitchen, the same attention carried through the rest of the house: full height wardrobes with internal drawers and shelving in every bedroom, a dressing room with a run of oak worktop and open shelving, floating oak shelves through the boot room, a routed handle bookcase wall in the office, and prime solid oak worktops, 27mm thick and oiled rather than lacquered, fitted to the living room, the master dressing room and the downstairs WC. The result is a house where the joinery reads as one project rather than a series of separate rooms, built to the same standard from the kitchen island to the last wardrobe upstairs.

Scope of joinery:
Kitchen, utility larder, boot room, entrance lobby, living room, office, staircase, downstairs WC, four bedrooms, master dressing room and master en-suite shelving, all designed, made and fitted as a single project.

Doors & Panels:
22mm veneered crown cut European oak, 5mm edging, book matched, 3% sheen matt water based lacquer. Central routed handle to bedrooms, side routed handle to office and stairway, J-Pull routed handle to kitchen, utility and boot room.

Cabinetry & Hardware:
Mix of matching Oak units, and Egger MFC internal construction in Light Winchester Oak, crown cut oak veneer to open units and shelving, 18mm internal thickness, 22mm oak veneered shelving, units and doors. Blum Clip-top Blumotion soft close hinges in onyx finish. All drawers solid oak wooden dovetail in matching finish, 40kg and 70kg load ratings. Oak cutlery tray to top drawers, steel internal liners to sink and bin units.

Worktop (kitchen):
20mm Caesarstone low silica mineral surface, 5151 Empira White, with square edging and corners, no upstand or back panels. Prime solid oak worktops, 27mm thick, oiled finish, fitted to the living room, master dressing room and downstairs WC.

Sink & Tap:
Stainless Zerox undermount sinks: 700mm in the kitchen, 500mm in the boot room. Claron 340mm sink in the utility larder. Quooker Pro3 Fusion Round boiling water tap in stainless steel to the kitchen. Abode Globe dual lever mixer taps to the boot room and utility larder.

Appliances:
Fisher & Paykel 3 door frost free fridge freezer (RS80A3). Elica NikolaTesla ONE induction hob, duct out version. Samsung S5 Dual Cook Flex Pyro oven with Steam Assist. Samsung S5 combination microwave with Natural Steam. Samsung Series 11 60cm dishwasher.
