The Island Store, Newlyn

This kitchen and dining area in Newlyn were designed as one continuous run, with a walk through door linking the kitchen into the utility beyond and floating shelving carrying the same materials through into the adjoining living space.

Three door finishes are mixed across the room. Base units are a skinny shaker door with a 20mm stile, hand painted in Blue Stream by Benjamin Moore, paired with an oak version of the same shaker profile and a reeded oak door in a natural finish for accent pieces. Handles are mixed too, with a gola rail along the run for a push to open finish and inox handles used elsewhere, so the doors read as a considered set rather than a single repeated pattern.

Cabinetry throughout is built in Egger MFC in Light Winchester Oak, with open units veneered in matching oak. Blum Onyx soft close hinges and Blum LegraBox soft close drawers are fitted throughout, with oak dovetail drawers to the larder units and an oak cutlery tray. A thick end panel conceals electrics at the end of the run, and the plinth wraps around the island to keep the same finish continuous at floor level.

The worktop is Technistone Glencoe, with a chamfered edge, a 60mm upstand and a full height back panel behind the sink. It overhangs the units all around and is polished underneath to allow for seating at the island, a detail worked out specifically for the space rather than a standard overhang. A Blanco Subline sink in Soft White SilGranit sits alongside a Quooker Pro3 Flex boiling water tap and soap dispenser, both in stainless steel.

The kitchen is fitted with a Sterling 110cm dual fuel range cooker, a matching high level extraction unit, a three door American style fridge freezer with ice and water, an integrated dishwasher and a wine cooler, with lighting run below the wall units, above the tall units and inside the glazed units to light the open shelving. Doors & Panels:
Mix of three door styles. Skinny shaker door, 22mm thick with 20mm stile width, solid oak with a veneered central panel, hand painted in Blue Stream CC-730 by Benjamin Moore, matt lacquer finish. Matching oak skinny shaker door in a lacquered natural finish. Reeded oak door, 16mm MR MDF with an 8mm solid oak reeded panel (24mm total), natural finish. Gola rail push to open and inox handles. Base panels flush to cabinetry with shaker detail to end panels, floating shelving to wall units, 150mm plinth.

Cabinetry & Hardware:
Egger 18mm MFC, Light Winchester Oak, open units veneered in matching oak, 2mm PVC lipped edges. Blum Clip-top Blumotion soft close hinges with in-line plate. Blum LegraBox soft close drawers in Orion Grey. Larder in oak, with oak dovetail drawers, oak cutlery tray. Aluminium sink base drip tray. Cutlery tray and larder pull outs, small bin to sink base, larger bin to unit run.

Worktop:
20mm Technistone Glencoe, chamfered edge, square corners, 60mm upstand, full height back panel behind the sink. Overhang all around, polished underneath for seating at the island.

Sink & Tap:
Blanco Subline 430/270-U SilGranit undermount sink in Soft White, big and small bowl. Quooker Pro3 Flex boiling water tap in stainless steel, centre of bowl, with Pro3 tank and matching stainless steel soap dispenser.

Appliances:
Sterling 110cm dual fuel range cooker, Hi Light 16cm high level extraction in white lacquered steel, three door American style fridge freezer with ice and water, Neff N70 60cm integrated dishwasher, Dunavox 300mm wine cooler.
