Sunraker, Praa Sands

A modern kitchen with a blue island, white tile backsplash, gold handles, and gold pendant lights hanging from the ceiling.

This bespoke kitchen at Sunraker in Praa Sands was built around a traditional detail becoming more popular again in a modern kitchen: tongue and groove doors, made from equally spaced 100mm boards that line up precisely through the drawers below, rather than a flat shaker or slab front. As with every kitchen we design and build, the doors are hand made rather than bought in. Each is ash veneered over an MDF core, with the tongue and groove detail routed in and carried through onto the end panels too, so the boarded look continues around every corner of the room.

They are painted in Farrow & Ball's Stiffkey Blue, a deep, characterful blue-grey, with brass knobs and cup pulls used throughout rather than a single handle style. A pair of reeded glass doors, framed in a 55mm stile, breaks up the run and adds texture and light.

Cabinet carcasses are built in Egger's Misty Blue, a soft, matt textured finish that sits quietly behind the painted doors, with Blum Onyx soft close hinges and Blum LegraBox soft close drawers in Orion Grey throughout.

The worktop is a genuine departure from stone: full stave iroko, a dense, naturally water resistant hardwood often chosen for exactly this kind of daily use, finished in a matt oil that lets the timber's warm, golden tone come through. Floating shelving continues above the sink and hob, with a brass back panel planned to complete the scheme once the units are fully fitted.

At the sink, a Blanco Etano sink in white ceramic is paired with a Quooker Fusion Round tap in patinated brass, drawing filtered boiling water from the Pro3 tank fitted below, the same warm brass tying the tap back to the door hardware throughout the room. Cooking is handled by a considered mix of brands: a Samsung oven and microwave, an Elica NikolaTesla Fit 60cm induction hob, a Dunavox wine cooler, and genuinely premium Liebherr integrated fridge and freezer units, chosen for their quiet, precise cooling rather than following a single appliance brand throughout.

The result is a warm, characterful kitchen built around real joinery detail, tongue and groove doors, a full stave iroko worktop, and brass throughout, rather than reaching for a standard shaker profile.
