The Old Chapel, Relubbus

This bespoke kitchen in Relubbus was built around a genuinely traditional centrepiece: a dresser with an open plate rack, spindles and a flap top door, the kind of piece that anchors a farmhouse kitchen rather than disappearing into a run of standard units.

As with every kitchen we design and build, the doors are hand made rather than bought in. Each is a solid ash frontal with a veneered centre panel and a 100mm shaker stile, painted in Farrow & Ball's Cromarty to a matt finish. Every handle throughout is styled after the classic knob and cup, both finished in pewter to match the tap.

Cabinet carcasses are built in Egger's Natural Lancaster, with a butler sink base, a corner unit with pull out storage, and a Kessebohmer Le Mans twin pull out making full use of the corner cupboard space. The dresser itself sits at 325mm deep alongside the wall units, with two drawers, a panelled door, and the open plate rack above it, lit and finished to match the rest of the kitchen.

The worktop is quartz, a 20mm thick slab of Helford, white with some greenish blue veining. At the sink, a ceramic butler sink is paired with a Vicus bridge tap in pewter, the same warm metal carried through the handles throughout the room. A Whirlpool W Collection dishwasher, 45cm and A++ rated, completes the kitchen.

The result is a warm, traditional kitchen built around a genuine dresser and plate rack, with pewter hardware and Cromarty ash tying the whole room together.
