Redinnick Terrace, Penzance
This bespoke kitchen in Penzance pairs two very different door materials within one considered scheme: warm oak veneer alongside Fenix NTM, a soft touch, matt laminate more usually seen in high end contemporary furniture than a family kitchen.
As with every kitchen we design and build, the doors are hand made rather than bought in. Each is 22mm MRMDF, finished in either oak veneer or Fenix laminate depending on its position in the room, with a solid oak J-Pull handle routed into every door and drawer, tying the two materials together with one consistent detail.
Tall units and the areas around the oven run in warm oak veneer, while the Fenix laminate takes on the base run and dishwasher and sink doors, giving the kitchen a considered rhythm between the two finishes rather than a single flat material throughout. Cabinet carcasses are built in Natural Hamilton Oak, with Legrabox drawer boxes throughout and matching 2mm edging. A 600mm larder and a combined oven and microwave housing sit within the run, alongside a dedicated fridge freezer housing.
The worktop is Silestone's Yukon, an engineered quartz with a soft white base and fine grey veining, chosen for its calm, low maintenance surface across the main run. Behind it, the splashback is finished in Bianco Eclipsia, a natural quartzite quarried in Brazil, with the same soft white background and grey veining as the worktop above it, but with the individual character only a natural stone can bring, no two pieces are ever quite the same.
The result is a kitchen built on considered contrast: two door materials, oak and Fenix, and two stone surfaces, engineered and natural, chosen to complement rather than match each other exactly. At the sink, a Blanco Etagon brings genuine flexibility to everyday use, its built-in rail system creating an extra working level within the bowl for draining, prepping or resting a chopping board, paired with an Abode Pronteau boiling water tap and a Blanco Orga bin fitted to the sink base.
