This bespoke kitchen on Penare Road, Penzance was designed around a warm, considered material palette. Book-matched oak veneer sits against two muted, contemporary colours, brought together by a dark, veined worktop that grounds the whole room.‍

As with every kitchen we design and build, nothing here is off the shelf. The main run is entirely in crown cut European oak veneer, book-matched across each door so the grain reads as one continuous piece of timber, with a central routed handle rather than an applied one. It is a quiet, architectural detail that keeps the doors looking uninterrupted. Wall units and panelling break from the main run in a fluted oak finish, adding texture and depth without introducing a second material.‍

Colour comes from inside the cabinetry rather than the doors. Wall units are finished in Egger's Stone Green, a cool, grey toned green that reads as calm and contemporary, paired with base and tall units in Ocean Blue, a muted, sea inspired tone with just enough green in it to sit naturally alongside the Stone Green above. Both are finished in Egger's velvety matt ST9 texture, so the cabinetry has a soft, tactile quality rather than a hard gloss.

The worktop is Dekton Kelya, an ultra compact sintered stone from Cosentino with a deep, dark base crossed by fine, light toned veins, inspired by natural marble. It is a practical choice as much as a beautiful one: sintered stone is virtually non porous, scratch and stain resistant, and unaffected by heat, so it holds up to daily use without special care.

At the sink, a Villeroy & Boch ceramic sink is paired with a Quooker Pro3 Fusion Square tap in patinated brass. It provides filtered boiling, chilled and sparkling water from a single tap, along with a matching soap dispenser, so the sink run does the work of several appliances in one fitting.

Cooking is handled by a full Fisher & Paykel suite: a built in single oven and a combination oven with microwave, a 90cm five burner gas hob with a dedicated wok burner, and a matching integrated extractor hood, with a Neff fridge freezer and Bosch dishwasher completing the run. Pull out drawers either side of the hob and inside the peninsula keep everyday items close to hand, while a hidden door and panelling at the end of the room and back of the peninsula keep the whole space looking considered rather than fitted.

The result is a bespoke Penzance kitchen that balances soft, contemporary colour with the warmth of solid, book-matched oak, built to be lived in daily and to age well rather than date quickly. Doors & Panels:
22mm MR MDF, crown cut European oak veneer, book-matched, 5mm solid oak edging, 3% sheen matt lacquer, central routed handle. Wall units and panelling: fluted oak, 18mm veneered MR MDF Oak Asolo face, crown cut oak veneer 0.6mm reverse, 5mm solid oak edging.

Cabinetry & Hardware:
Egger 18mm MFC: wall units in U665 ST9 Stone Green, base and tall units in U565 ST9 Ocean Blue, both in Egger's ST9 velvet matt finish. Blum Clip-top Blumotion soft close hinges, Blum LegraBox soft close drawers in Lava Grey. Solid Oak Dovetail hidden cutlery drawer. Sink base liner. 100mm plinth, wrapped to give a floating look.

Worktop:
12mm Dekton Kelya (Cosentino ultra compact sintered stone). 60mm upstand, square edge and corners, worktop extended into the windowsill with a waterfall end to the drawer pack.

Sink & Tap:
Villeroy & Boch Subway ceramic sink, white, undermount, 800mm bowl and a half. Quooker Pro3 Fusion Square tap in patinated brass, with Quooker Cube filtered chilled and sparkling water, and matching soap dispenser.

Appliances:
Fisher & Paykel Ovens, Hob and Extraction. Neff fridge freezer, Bosch dishwasher
