North Parade, Falmouth
This bespoke kitchen on North Parade, Falmouth pairs two finishes across one run: crown cut oak on the island and main units, and a soft, warm Farrow & Ball Ammonite on the larder, oven housing and glazed wall units.
As with every kitchen we design and build, both door types are hand made. The oak doors are 22mm MRMDF veneered in crown cut oak, book matched, with a built in J-Pull handle routed directly into the door. The painted doors, finished in Ammonite to a matt lacquer, use the same J-Pull profile on drawers but switch to a bottom mounted handle on the taller larder and oven housing doors. Four wall unit doors are glazed in reeded glass within a 50mm frame, fitted with Elan knob handles in an inox finish, softening the run with texture and light.
Cabinet carcasses are built in Egger's Light Sorano Oak, with Blum Onyx soft close hinges and Blum LegraBox soft close drawers in Lava Grey throughout, and an oak insert to the cutlery drawer for a warmer touch than the standard finish. An open shelving unit anchors one end of the kitchen, built from the same oak as the doors, alongside a dresser unit that sits directly on top of the drawers below rather than a separate hanging unit.
The worktop is Duke Stone's Lamorna in a honed finish, 20mm thick, run across 6.5 square metres with an 80mm upstand throughout, including the seating area on the island, and finished with a 10p round corner and smoothed edge, the underside of the island itself polished for anyone sitting close against it. At the sink, a Blanco Andano sink in brushed steel is paired with a Quooker Fusion Round tap, also in brushed steel, with the Quooker Cube fitted for filtered and sparkling water alongside the usual filtered boiling water from the Pro3 tank. Appliances were largely the client's own choice, with a Siemens double oven and steam oven, dishwasher and wine fridge all fitted into housings built specifically for them. A Fisher & Paykel integrated fridge freezer with ice and water was supplied as part of the kitchen itself.
The result is a kitchen built on considered contrast: oak against Ammonite, brushed steel against reeded glass, and a worktop polished underneath for the people who sit closest to it.
