Honor Oak, London
This bespoke kitchen in Honor Oak was built entirely from solid, crown cut oak, kept light and consistent from the doors through to the units behind them. As with every kitchen we design and build, the doors were made to order.
Each is a solid crown cut oak square edge shaker door, with a 40mm stile width and finished in a light crown cut oak with a 3% lacquer. The cabinet units behind them are veneered in matching oak and lacquered to the same finish, so the whole kitchen reads as one continuous material rather than a door colour sitting in front of a different carcass.
At one end, a 900mm larder brings both storage and detail together. Its internal drawers are hand jointed in solid oak with a dovetail construction, a bow handle cut into each front and a dropped lower edge, running on soft close Blum Movento runners. Lighting is triggered automatically by a door sensor, routed through a 6mm cable track so no wiring is visible, and the same dovetail jointed drawers and oak spice racks continue through the base units elsewhere in the run.
Every handle and knob throughout the kitchen is from Corston, chosen to bring a consistent, considered ironmongery across every door and drawer. Above the sink, a floating shelf is cut from the same material as the panelling, lit along its underside so it reads as a piece of the room's architecture rather than an added fitting.
The worktop itself is a 30mm thick Silestone in Ethereal Glow, finished in a soft, suede texture with a bullnose edge, and extends up into a matching back panel behind the hob. At the sink, a genuinely large Shaws ceramic butler sink, a double 800 shaker style basin nearly 800mm wide, sits beneath a Zip HydroTap in black, delivering boiling, chilled and sparkling filtered water from a single fitting.
Cooking is centred on a freestanding Falcon Continental range, 1092mm wide with induction and a stainless steel finish, framed by full height oak cabinetry either side. A built in Fisher and Paykel fridge freezer, finished flush with matching oak door panels and topped with its own oak box, sits alongside a Bosch dishwasher, with drawer and pull out storage built into almost every base unit in the run.
The result is a warm, consistently detailed oak kitchen, where even a floating shelf is cut from the worktop stone and every internal drawer is built to the same standard as the doors in front of it.
