Gwithian Towans, Hayle

This kitchen at Gwithian Towans, near the town of Hayle, was built without a single wall unit, replacing them with floating oak shelving and letting the plywood cabinetry below carry the room on its own.

Doors and drawer fronts are made from 18mm Eastern European Birch Plywood, mixed with 19mm Crown Oak veneered birch plywood, with every visible edge sanded and lacquered rather than lipped, so the ply layers themselves are left on show. An Elan handle in a clear lacquered oak finish runs across the doors and drawers, and end grain is left visible where the base panels meet the cabinetry, a detail that keeps the plywood construction part of the look rather than something to disguise.

Cabinetry underneath is built in Egger MFC in Light Sorano Oak, with Blum soft close hinges and drawers throughout and a wooden expanding cutlery insert to each drawer pack. Practical storage runs the length of the kitchen: spice pull outs sit either side of the oven space, a larder unit houses internal drawers and basket pull outs, and a corner base is fitted with its own pull out. Away from the kitchen itself, a stacked washing machine and tumble dryer sit in a dedicated utility space, and a built under dog bed is worked into the base run, a small but deliberate piece of furniture rather than an afterthought.

An oak finished base unit and breakfast bar back panel bring a second, lacquered oak finish into the room, with an open unit in matching veneer on the back of the island to keep the two materials tied together. The worktop is Dekton Albarium, mitred at one end and overhung for seating, with drainer grooves cut to the left of the sink and an upstand run to meet the underside of the window.

An off-white Blanco Etagon sink in a nickel finish is fitted undermount, paired with an Abode Pico monobloc tap in brushed nickel, with a bin fitted into the sink base for everyday waste. The kitchen is finished with a Samsung appliance pack, including a fridge freezer, dishwasher, wine cooler, washing machine and tumble dryer. Base panels flush to cabinetry with end grain left on show. Floating oak shelving in place of wall units, 100mm plinth.

Cabinetry & Hardware:
Egger 18mm MFC, Light Sorano Oak. Blum Clip-top Blumotion soft close hinges. Blum LegraBox soft close drawers in Lava Grey, wooden cutlery insert to drawer packs. Spice pull outs either side of the oven, internal drawers to both drawer packs, basket pull outs and internal drawers to the larder, corner pull out. Sink base liner included, built under dog bed to base run. All larders and exposed panelling and open units in matching Plywood.

Worktop:
20mm Dekton Albarium, square edge and corners, upstand to the underside of the window, back panel to under the shelving, mitred end and overhang for seating, drainer grooves to the left of the sink, slip of matching worktop to the larder.

Sink & Tap:
Blanco Etagon SilGranit undermount single bowl sink in off-white with a nickel finish. Abode Pico AT1227 monobloc tap in brushed nickel, centre of bowl, bin fitted in the sink base.

Appliances:
Free standing oven supplied by the client. Samsung Series 6 70/30 no frost fridge freezer, Samsung Series 11 60cm dishwasher, Samsung 30cm 18 bottle wine cooler, Samsung free standing washing machine and tumble dryer, stacked with a matching spacer kit.
