Wodehouse Terrace, Falmouth

This kitchen on Wodehouse Terrace in Falmouth was built around a material we do not often get asked for: bamboo. It gives a kitchen a genuinely different character to oak or painted timber, a fine, warm grain with a slightly cooler, more contemporary tone, and it comes from one of the fastest growing, most renewable materials available for cabinetry.

Against the room's limewashed walls, the bamboo fronts read as warm and textured rather than stark, and age well with daily use rather than showing wear. Cabinets were built to size for the room, finished in Graphite Grey with matching edging and Legrabox drawer boxes throughout, so the bamboo fronts sit against a calm, dark backdrop rather than competing with the carcassing itself.

A 600mm larder with drawers, a run of deep pan drawers, and a dedicated space for the household's own range cooker complete the layout, with a bridging unit above to house the fridge freezer. We now make bamboo fronts like these in house, having worked with the material closely on projects like this one.

The worktop is Caesarstone's Frozen Terra, templated, manufactured and fitted to the room, chosen for the same reason as the bamboo: a natural, slightly cooler tone that complements the warmth of the fronts rather than matching it exactly. A Blanco Rotan sink in anthracite and an Abode Althia single lever tap in matt black sit quietly within the run, and extraction is handled by a LuxAir canopy hood in stainless steel.

The result is a kitchen built around a genuinely sustainable, characterful material, bamboo fronts against a dark, considered carcass, a cool stone worktop, and limewashed walls that let the whole room breathe. Doors & Panels:
Bamboo finish door, drawer and panel fronts, made to measure for this kitchen. Linear handles, routed horizontally to drawers and vertically to tall doors.

Cabinetry & Hardware:
Cabinets built to size in Graphite Grey U961, 2mm matching edging. Legrabox drawer boxes throughout. 600mm larder unit with drawers, 2200mm high.

Worktop:
Caesarstone Frozen Terra, templated, manufactured and fitted.

Sink & Tap:
Blanco Rotan 500-U sink, SilGranit, anthracite. Abode Althia tap, single lever, matt black.

Appliances:
LuxAir canopy extractor, stainless steel (LA-86-CAN-LUX-SS-PLUS). Range cooker and fridge freezer customer supplied.
