Wayside Farm, St Just

This bespoke kitchen was built around two doors, two materials, one continuous scheme, rather than the single finish most kitchens settle on. Leaving Penzance and driving over the moorland towards St Just you reach Wayside Farm, where you can see why we settled on the natural materials of the Oak, and the blue that complements the sea views.

As with every kitchen we design and build, both door styles are hand made to order. On one side, a solid ash shaker door with a 70mm frame and a 4mm recessed panel, sprayed in a deep indigo blue and finished with an aged brass Didsbury bar handle. On the other, a crown cut European oak door with a routed J-Pull handle, book matched and finished in a clear lacquer that lets the grain do the talking. A fluted glass door, framed in matching oak, fronts the dresser unit, giving the kitchen a soft, textured glimpse into what is stored behind it rather than a plain pane.

Cabinet carcasses are built in Egger's Light Sorano Oak, with Blum Onyx soft close hinges and Blum LegraBox soft close drawers in Lava Grey throughout. A larder and a combined oven and microwave housing sit within the oak side of the kitchen, with the dresser unit anchoring the blue painted run.

The worktop is a genuinely local touch: quartz in Duke Stone's Godrevey, named for the beach along the coast from here, 20mm thick with an 80mm upstand and a mitred waterfall end on the island. It runs into the windowsill and continues into the dresser unit itself, so the stone and the joinery meet rather than simply sit side by side. At the sink, a Blanco ceramic Belfast sink in white is paired with an Abode Pronteau three in one tap in brass, drawing filtered boiling water from a tank fitted below, with the same aged brass carried through from the door handles.

Cooking is handled by a Samsung suite: a 76 litre Pyro Clean oven with Air Sous Vide, a 50 litre combination oven, microwave and grill with steam clean, and a dual zone venting induction hob with extraction built into the unit itself rather than an overhead hood. An under counter fridge freezer and a 60cm dishwasher complete the run.

The result is a kitchen defined by considered contrast: indigo blue against natural oak, brass against clear lacquer, a worktop named for the coastline it sits above. To see more of our work, browse our full project gallery, or visit our Newlyn showroom to see these materials in person.

Blanco ceramic Belfast sink, white, single bowl. Abode Pronteau three in one tap, square, brass, with hot water tank below sink.
