This bespoke kitchen at Landeryon Gardens, Penzance was built entirely in solid ash rather than oak, a timber we favour for its durability and its resistance to the atmospheric changes a kitchen goes through daily.

Each is a solid ash frontal with a veneered centre panel and an 80mm stile, sprayed in Farrow & Ball's Stiffkey Blue, a rich, deep blue that anchors the whole room. Every handle throughout is a Henrietta cup and knob, twenty eight in total, giving the kitchen a consistent, traditional detail across every door and drawer.

Cabinet carcasses are built in Egger's Natural Hamilton Oak, with a 1250mm larder, twin fridge and freezer housings, and a dedicated wine fridge space built into the run.

Solid oak floating shelves, four in total, add open display space without leaning on the painted cabinetry for it. The worktop is named Helford Dream, after the river along the coast from here, with a full upstand to the main kitchen area and a stone slip lining the inside of the larder. At the sink, a Blanco Rotan undermount sink in white is paired with a Blanco Lanora-S pull out tap.

Cooking is handled by a full Whirlpool suite: a 77cm induction hob with flex zones, a matching pigeon pair fridge and freezer, and a 60cm dishwasher, extracted through a LuxAir canopy hood rated at 780 cubic metres an hour. An Essentials dual zone wine cooler with a wooden shelf completes the appliance run.

The result is a rich, characterful kitchen built entirely in ash rather than the more usual oak, with a worktop named for the water just along the coast and traditional brass detail throughout.
