Hampstead Heath, London
This bespoke kitchen near Hampstead Heath pairs a calm, contemporary painted slab finish with two genuine pieces of solid oak, giving the room warmth against an otherwise minimal palette. As with every kitchen we design and build, the doors are hand made rather than bought in. Each is a 22mm MDF slab door painted in Cashmere with a matt finish, and finished with an inset handle rather than an applied one: a squared channel routed centrally into the top of each door and drawer, colour matched to the door itself so the whole front reads as one uninterrupted surface.
Against that calm, painted run sit two solid oak pieces built entirely differently to the rest of the kitchen: a small open display unit above the worktop, and a 1500mm floating oak shelf, both left as natural timber rather than painted, giving the room a warm, tactile contrast against the Cashmere cabinetry. A tall larder unit doubles as housing for the home's boiler, internally split with full depth shelving so it works as genuine storage rather than just a box to hide an appliance.
The worktop is Silestone's Miami Vena, a 20mm quartz surface with a full height upstand and a back panel and splashback running the entire length of the kitchen, so the material continues uninterrupted rather than stopping and starting behind appliances. At the sink, a Blanco SilGranit sink in white with a bowl and a half is paired with a Quooker Fusion Square tap in black, providing filtered boiling water from a single fitting via the Quooker Pro3 tank and filter cartridge.
Cooking is handled by a Samsung suite: a 76 litre Dual Cook oven with Pyrolytic cleaning, a slim fit 60cm induction hob, and a 52cm black glass canopy extraction hood above it. A Samsung fridge freezer with Power Freeze and Power Cool, and a 13 place setting Samsung dishwasher, complete the run.
The result is a considered contemporary kitchen that uses restraint deliberately, one calm painted colour, one consistent handle detail, and two honest pieces of solid oak doing all the work of adding warmth to the room.
