Clapper Mill, Lamorna, Penzance

This bespoke kitchen at Clapper Mill sits under the original beams of an old mill in Lamorna, Penzance.

As with every kitchen we design and build, the doors are hand made. Each is a solid ash shaker door, 80mm in the stile with a veneered centre panel, sprayed in Dulux Heritage Green Slate to a matte finish. A traditional thick pelmet and cornice run the full length of the kitchen, giving it a classic, considered profile rather than a flat modern edge, and the base panels float above a plinth that wraps the full run of the island.

One detail we do not often get to build: a pair of genuinely curved end units and doors, closing off the run with a soft radius rather than a hard corner. Curved joinery takes real skill to get right, and it is the kind of detail that only shows itself once you notice it is there.

Cabinet carcasses are built in Egger's Porcelain White, keeping the interior of every cupboard bright and consistent behind the green painted doors. Every handle in the kitchen is a matching aged brass cup and knob, a detail that carries through to the tap and soap dispenser at the sink, so the ironmongery reads as one consistent choice throughout the room rather than a mix of finishes.

The worktop is a genuinely fitting choice: Duke Stone's Lamorna quartz, 30mm thick with a full upstand, named for the same cove this kitchen sits above. At the sink, a Shaws Waterside 600 bow fronted ceramic sink in white is paired with a Perrin and Rowe 4350 Etruscan monobloc mixer with rinse, in aged brass, continuing the warm ironmongery used throughout the room.

Cooking is centred on a Stoves Richmond Deluxe range, a 100cm electric induction cooker with a traditional look that suits the room's heritage character, alongside a Neff built-in combination microwave with hot air and Elica's Fold extractor in grey. A Neff fridge and separate Neff freezer sit either side, with a slimline Neff dishwasher completing the run.

The result is a warm, considered shaker kitchen built for a period cottage: heritage green paint, aged brass throughout, and a worktop that shares its name with the cove outside the window. Doors & Panels:
22mm solid ash shaker doors, 80mm stile width, veneered centre panel, sprayed in Dulux Heritage Green Slate, matte finish, square edge. Traditional thick pelmet and cornice. Curved end units and doors. Wall units framed all round, shaker detail to visible end panels, slab to others. Floating panels, plinth wraps the island, 150mm plinth height.

Cabinetry & Hardware:
Egger 18mm MFC in W1200 ST9 Porcelain White, 2mm PVC lipped edges. Blum Clip-top Blumotion soft close hinges with in-line plate. Blum LegraBox soft close drawers in Orion Grey. Oak cutlery tray. Aged brass solid cup and knob handles throughout.

Worktop:
Duke Stone Lamorna quartz, 30mm, upstand all around, round edging and round 10p corners. Back panel customer supplied.

Sink & Tap:
Shaws Waterside 600 bow fronted ceramic sink, white, single bowl. Perrin and Rowe 4350 Etruscan monobloc mixer tap with rinse, aged brass (PR4350AB). Matching aged brass soap dispenser.

Stoves Richmond Deluxe 100Ei electric induction range cooker (RDXRCA100EITCH). Neff N50 built-in combination microwave with hot air (C1AMG84N1B). Elica Fold Grey 80 LED extraction (FOLD-GR-80). Neff N50 fridge, frost free (GI7812EE0G). Neff N50 freezer (KI1812FE0G). Neff N50 45cm slimline dishwasher (S875HKX21G).
