What do you mean by “bespoke”?

The word has different meanings for different companies with many so-called bespoke companies using standard sizes and carcasses. To us “bespoke” means; hand-made to a design that is unique to you and not being restricted to standard sizes. The results of a truly bespoke service are that; space is used much more efficiently, and absolutely anything is possible. Have a look at our bespoke kitchens to see what we can offer. Our "bespoke" kitchens do not actually cost more than "standard" kitchens in many instances. Only if we start heading into highly complicated hand made "running grain" real wood veneered frontals do you start to see increased cost, however, these are simply stunning and VERY unusual.

What sort of quality can I expect from Meadows Kitchens?

There are too many kitchen manufacturers out there who use the word “quality” to wrongly describe what they are producing. Take a close look at their draw runners, carcass materials and construction, drawer boxes, hinges and joints to see that they are actually supplying the opposite of quality.

Our cabinets are constructed to the highest standard; Using "Egger" MFC board, fully assembled, glued and doweled in the factory, with a solid 18mm back panel. Our cabinets are 2mm PVC lipped on all front edges and shelves, giving our kitchens phenomenal extra resilience over the 0.4mm  edging you will get with many companies. We have the choice of over 40 colours to our cabinets, with the same colour inside and out. Inside these cabinets, we supply the best quality soft close hinges and under-mount, full extension, soft close drawer runners available - all are from "Blum".

Our gloss door is acrylic sprayed – the best and smoothest finish available, unless you choose solid acrylic (which we also supply). We avoid at all cost, supplying cheaper, possibly vinyl wrapped gloss doors as with these doors, when you look down a light line (towards a window) you can see surface imperfections / undulations and “orange peel” effect. They are also susceptible to delamination problems under some circumstances, and eventual complete failure.

Our timber doors are hand made in the West Country for us to any style you want, and any colour if you choose "painted".

What do you specialise in?

At Meadows Kitchens we focus on specialised kitchen design and installation, including undertaking detailed construction works. Our close knit team undertake works from small installation projects, right through to large structural alteration or complete new builds. And with over 25 years experience in the kitchen industry, there really is a vast difference in our expertise.

Are there jobs that are too small?

NO! We would welcome your call on any kitchen related issue, you will be pleasantly surprised just how helpful we can be.

What is your environmental policy?

Our love for the natural environment that surrounds us has led to an increased awareness of sustainable kitchen design and installation, for more information read our environmental mission statement

Will you remove all waste after an install and what happens to it?

Depending on our quotation detail, we will usually remove all waste from any installation with few exceptions, and encourage reuse and recycling of used materials by using websites such as 'Freecycle' for items that may still be useful. We aim to achieve rates of recycling of over 90%, largely maintained through years of research about various outlets for the recyclable materials that are sorted from installation waste to significantly reduce the percentage going to landfill, helping towards a greener environment.

What is sustainable forest management?

The Food and Agriculture Organisation defines sustainable forest management as: The stewardship and use of forests and forest lands in a way, and at a rate, that maintains their biodiversity, productivity, regeneration capacity, vitality and their potential to fulfill, now and in the future, relevant ecological, economic and social functions, at local, national, and global levels, and that does not cause damage to other ecosystems.

How long have you been trading?

We’ve been trading for over 10 years, starting in 2007 as a family run business. However our experience is much wider reaching with over 25 years experience in the kitchen industry.

Where are you based?

Meadows Kitchens is based in West Cornwall. We have, however, completed prestigious contracts near and far - from (quite literally) next door, to Amsterdam, London, Sussex, Cornwall, East Anglia, Italy... the list is geographically far reaching, the same as the style of the projects!

Do you do plumbing and electrics?

Yes, our plumbers are Gas Safe Registered*  and electricians NICEIC approved with work certificated to BS7671 {2008}. We continuously carry £2,000,000 Public Liability insurance and are very proud to have been nominated and included in "Which?" Magazines "Local Trader" register (Where we now have the prestigious "contributor status"). This inclusion (which is not a "paid for inclusion" as with so many "recommendation" sites) gives potential customers, particularly those that have not come via a recommendation, a greater degree of initial trust and security in our ability, products and craftsmanship.

Can you supply my appliances for me?

Yes. We are happy to discuss whichever option suits you best, even to the extent that if you desire, you could supply specific items to the project for us to install. We are totally flexible. We do not have any specific affiliation to any manufacturer, but can supply you from a wealth of different sources. If it's available, we can supply it - if it's not, we can often still manage to supply it!

Are you VAT registered?

Yes, feel free to contact us for such details

Do I have to send you any drawings or dimensions?

If you are in our region then we’ll come to your house, talk about ideas and measure up, then we will return with designs to talk through the options. Just contact us to book a meeting using our contact page. You can also send us drawings or dimensions without the initial meeting as we are happy to carry out full kitchen renovation projects, or supply only orders, all of which run smoothly with no unexpected surprises, and full completion on time.

How does the design process work and is this free?

We’ll come to your house with a check sheet and run through your ideas at this initial stage and discuss what variations you would like to see with the quotes. We’ll turn this information into 3 dimensional designs, which if you have a home computer can be emailed to you to look over before our next visit. This is a free service, and we will meet and discuss your ideas and adapt designs as many times as necessary to get the perfect solution for you. Check out our design page for an idea of what you will receive.

How long will it take to complete the job?

This varies from job to job, however as a general trend we would normally give 5 working days for installation time,  this depends on additional work you may want (structural works / extension on the house, additional works on the area, full decoration etc. etc.).

Do you provide any after care service?

You will receive a handover pack containing all details on maintenance of your new kitchen, including worktop maintenance and all relevant warranties for your appliances - as well as some spare oil for your worktops (if solid wood). Working with natural products there is a chance that there will be some movement of doors as the wood acclimatises to your home, this is natural process; if this happens then get in touch and we will come and make the necessary adjustments for you, free of charge (unlike some companies).

How do you protect your wooden worktops against water damage?

We tend to lean towards an oil such as Danish or Tung oil, although more modern oils such as Osmo Top are starting to be utilised also. Whilst these are natural products and do provide good protection against water, they do need to be tended to and maintained on a regular basis. So remember, your wooden worktop will still require care, attention, and re-oiling on a regular basis. All details are in the hand over pack, and will have been discussed with you in person!
